Threads App Hits 100 Million Users

Instagram's text-based app, Threads, has swiftly amassed 100 million signups within just five days of its launch, giving rivals like Twitter a run for their money. This remarkable achievement was confirmed by Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri.

"I'm not sure I can wrap my mind around that fact. It's insane; I can't make sense of it," Mosseri exclaimed, praising his team's hard work. He also acknowledged that they have accomplished things out of order but promised to make the app great.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, highlighted the app's swift adoption, with 2 million signups within two hours, 5 million in four hours, and 10 million users registered within seven hours of the launch. By the following morning, more than 30 million people had signed up to try Threads. This impressive growth trajectory is particularly noteworthy considering the app has not yet been launched in the EU due to privacy concerns.

Previously, OpenAI's ChatGPT bot held the record as one of the fastest-growing consumer products, reaching 10 million daily users in 40 days and 100 million monthly users in approximately two months. Threads, in its first month, has already crossed this milestone.

However, keeping these users on the platform will be a significant challenge. Threads currently lacks several features such as support for ActivityPub, post search, direct messages, hashtags, and a "Following" feed. It also has a read-only web interface and does not allow nudity on the platform.

Despite these shortcomings, the rapid achievement of reaching 100 million users indicates that Threads has made a powerful entrance and seems set to make a significant impact on the social media landscape.
