Snapchat has unveiled a new generative AI feature called 'My AI Snaps' available to Snapchat+ subscribers. This feature allows users to send snaps to the in-app chatbot, My AI, and receive a generatively created snap in return. While currently the primary use seems to be for entertainment purposes, practical applications like receiving recipe suggestions based on a picture of your groceries are possible.
Earlier, Snapchat had integrated the My AI chatbot into group chats and enabled AI place recommendations and Lens suggestions. Recently, the chatbot was updated to respond to users' snaps with a text-based reply. Now, it can respond with a photo as well, but only for Snapchat+ subscribers.
However, there are some privacy concerns around this feature. Snapchat is saving all messages exchanged with My AI unless manually deleted by users. This applies to the new generative photos feature as well. Although My AI has been designed to avoid biased, incorrect, harmful, or misleading information, the company warns users not to solely rely on it for advice.
Snapchat has faced criticism for its My AI chatbot, with users voicing discontent over the bot being pinned to the top of their chats with no option to remove or block it. The launch of My AI Snaps aims to improve user sentiment around the AI experience.
The Snapchat+ subscription, priced at $3.99/month, includes several enhancements like the option to pin a No. 1 Best Friend, a Story Rewatch indicator, custom app icons and a theme editor, Priority Story Replies, a Snapchat+ badge, and more.
