Snapchat is launching a new Lens Creator Rewards program, a move that allows augmented reality (AR) creators and developers to earn money for their top-performing Lenses. Creators could earn up to $7,200 per month if their Lens garners high engagement in the US, India, and Mexico.
Though the rewards program will initially focus on these three markets, creators from 40 eligible countries can receive rewards if their Lens performs well in the targeted regions. Snapchat's Director of AR Platform Partnerships and Ecosystem, Sophia Dominguez, emphasized that the company aims to start small and incorporate feedback from the community before expanding the program to other markets.
The company hasn't yet detailed the program's specific eligibility requirements, but Dominguez confirmed they'll consider various metrics, including views and specific Lens-based metrics, as well as user interaction times. More information on eligibility and requirements will be disclosed as the program develops.
Snapchat's Lens Creator Rewards program marks a significant step for AR creators, as it allows them to monetize their work in a way that was not previously possible. With over 300,000 AR creators and teams, Snapchat's AR community has created over 3 million Lenses, which have been viewed more than 5 trillion times.
