Sony Set to Launch PS5 Game Streaming for PlayStation Plus Premium Subscribers

Sony reveals plans to bring cloud-streamed PS5 games to the PS5 console in select regions this October for PlayStation Plus Premium users.

Sony Rolls Out Cloud-Streamed PS5 Games Soon

Sony aficionados, get ready to experience a new dimension in gaming. Later this October, Sony is introducing the cloud streaming of PS5 games, with launches staggered across Japan, Europe, and North America. Revealed in a recent PlayStation Blog post, this feature is exclusively available to subscribers of PlayStation Plus Premium, Sony's top-tier PlayStation Plus offering.

Here's a quick glimpse at the anticipated release schedule:

  • Japan: October 17th
  • Europe: October 23rd
  • North America: October 30th

While the initial release promises a selection of PS5 games available for streaming, Sony envisions expanding this offering to hundreds in the future. From the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog to owned digital games like 'Resident Evil 4' and 'Genshin Impact' and even game trials for titles such as 'Hogwarts Legacy' and 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt', players can expect a rich gaming experience. However, Sony remains tight-lipped about which titles will be immediately accessible upon the feature's debut.

Gaming enthusiasts will also be delighted to know that Sony promises selectable streaming resolutions, encompassing 4K, 1440p, 1080p, and 720p. A caveat exists, though: at the outset, only PS5 consoles can stream these games. However, the wording suggests a broader compatibility in the future, possibly extending to other devices.

This move aligns with Sony's clear intention to make waves in the cloud gaming landscape. Their journey began in June with the initial testing of cloud-streamed PS5 games. And while many hope this will be a perfect match for the upcoming PlayStation Portal handheld, at present, it exclusively supports Wi-Fi streaming from the PS5 console.

The gaming world eagerly awaits this release, hoping for a seamless cloud-streamed gaming experience.
