YouTube Music's 'Now Playing' Screen Gets Social with New Comments Feature

YouTube Music revamps its 'Now Playing' screen, adding a comment section to foster user engagement. The redesign is now live on both iOS and Android.

YouTube Music Adds Comments to 'Now Playing' Screen

In a move to foster social engagement within the app, YouTube Music has redesigned its "Now Playing" screen to feature a new comments section. Now, users can read and write comments directly from the app, elevating the experience beyond just listening to music.

The redesign incorporates a comment button that pulls up existing comments from the corresponding official music video on YouTube. Located under the cover art, this new button opens a panel that slides up on the screen, adding a social layer to the user experience.️

Alongside the comment section, YouTube Music has also made several user-friendly changes. Icons for liking or disliking the song, saving, sharing, downloading, and accessing radio are now more prominently displayed. Previously, these options were hidden and only accessible when tapping on the album cover. The redesign has moved these buttons beneath the song's title for easier access.

Another minor update is a color change: the song/video toggle button is now displayed in white, deviating from its previous color scheme that matched the background.

This redesign follows closely on the heels of the launch of "Samples," YouTube Music's TikTok-inspired short-form video feed featuring a catalog of official music videos and live footage.

By adding a comments section to the "Now Playing" screen, YouTube Music is aiming to make the listening experience more social and engaging. With these improvements, the platform is stepping up its game to better compete in the crowded music streaming market.
