WPP Considers BT Chief for Potential New Chairman Role

Amidst leadership changes, WPP eyes Philip Jansen, departing from BT, as a prospective chair. Explore the transition poised for the communications giant.

BT's Philip Jansen Eyed as Potential Chair for WPP Amid Leadership Transition

Philip Jansen, current BT executive, emerges as a leading contender for the chairmanship at WPP, a global marketing services and communications giant. As Roberto Quarta prepares to step down from his position as chairman after serving since 2015, WPP actively seeks fresh leadership.

Reports from Sky News indicate that Jansen, departing from BT in the upcoming spring, has been approached along with several other potential candidates for Quarta's succession. However, city sources suggest that the selection process is still in its early phases, without definite progress in negotiations between the parties involved.

WPP initiated the quest for Quarta's replacement last year, emphasizing the intention to appoint a chair from outside its existing board members. The communications group encountered a challenging period, issuing its second profit warning in October 2023, attributed to declines in North America. Despite this setback, WPP maintains a market value slightly above £8bn.

Both WPP and Mr. Jansen refrained from providing comments regarding any facets of the ongoing recruitment process for Quarta's successor.
